Pia Rose and her dapper Chihuahua jump for joy in Palm Desert

Pia Rose photographed by Eyoalha Baker for Jump for Joy Photo Project and Palm Springs Cultural Center Artist Residency

I met with Pia and her fancily dressed Chihuahua on an intersection in Palm Desert. Pia had a big smile on her face as she got out of her car and was excited to share her joy. She had even dressed up her dog with a shirt and tie for the jumping joy occasion. We exchanged some lovely stories about acts of random kindness we had experienced and how sharing joy opens hearts. She did a couple of jumps to capture this lovely photo that exudes joy then we were on our way to enjoy our day.

Get to know a little about Pia:
Q: What inspires you to jump for joy?
My 3 little dogs bring me joy every single day!

Q: How was your experience doing the jumping photos?
I really enjoyed the experience… it was very uplifting and fun!

Q: How do you describe the feeling of joy?
I would describe it as feeling completely happy and carefree… with not a trouble in the world. I have always chosen to see the glass half full… never half empty. It’s a choice that I follow in my everyday life.

Q: What is your greatest passion in life?
That’s a hard question since I feel passionate about many things.. My dogs, art, my family and friends, travel and just living a healthy lifestyle every day.

Q: How do you feel about being part of a community project that promotes joy?
I’m so happy to be living in a community that promotes joy. I love living here and especially since I believe most people that are living here are here by choice. That, choice, makes a huge difference.

Q: If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?
I would take away ALL THE GUNS in the world!

Q: What are you working on or creating?
I do a lot of volunteer work. It makes me feel very good to be able to give back.

Q: Mini bio or something special you want to share.
I am a retired teacher and have always loved going to art museums. I have been a docent at the Palm Springs Art Museum for the past 8 years. I tour various school groups every week. It is a joy to do this as the majority of the students have never experienced anything like this and many never would.

Thank you Pia for sharing your jumps and joy with us!
